Please join us for this Annual Community Christmas Celebration in the Village of Bourne! This year participating organizations include the Jonathan Bourne Public Library, the Bourne Society for Historic Preservation (Briggs-McDermott House), the Aptucxet Garden Club, the Bourne United Methodist Church, the Cataumet Schoolhouse Preservation Group, the Bourne Town Archives and the Bourne Historical Society. Festivities kick off on Friday night, Dec 6th, with all four locations in Bourne Village offering a mix of indoor and outdoor activities for visitors of all ages. Admission is free to all events. Friday, December 6th
4 PM to 8 PM Celebrate the magic of the season with The Stories of Christmas at the historic Briggs-McDermott House at 22 Sandwich Road. Each beautifully decorated room brings a classic holiday tale to life. Wander through the Carriage House and Blacksmith Shop, and enjoy the festive atmosphere across the grounds. Kids can get creative with holiday crafts, while all visitors are invited to enjoy complimentary refreshments in the Forge. The Aptucxet Garden Club will be on hand with an array of holiday greens and wreaths for sale – Friday starting at 3 PM. Experience the magic of the season in this historic setting hosted by the Bourne Society for Historic Preservation.
4:30 PM to 7 PM Holiday Festivities at the Jonathan Bourne Public Library, 19 Sandwich Road. Kick off the evening with Christmas Music by Matt York from 4:30 to 5:30 PM. Browse the Beautiful Book Sale from 5 to 7 PM, and enjoy a mini-showcase of the Nutcracker Ballet by the New England Ballet Theater – two shows, first at 5:30 and again at 6:30 PM. Don’t miss the annual Tree Lighting at 6 PM! Warm up at the Hot Cocoa Truck sponsored by the Friends of the Library, and place your final bids in the “Season of Giving” Silent Auction, which ends December 6 at 7 PM.
5 PM to 7 PM Cookie Walk at the Bourne United Methodist Church, 37 Sandwich Road. Join the fun at this popular annual event by purchasing a box for $8 to fill with delicious homemade cookies. Quantities are limited so come early to get your favorite cookies! While you’re here, take a peaceful moment to enjoy the historic 1831 Meeting House which serves as the present sanctuary of the church. The sanctuary will be lit and traditional holiday music will be playing. Sit a while and feel the Spirit of Christmas!
6 PM to 8 PM Blooming Together for the Holidays at the Jonathan Bourne Historical Center, 30 Keene Street. Join the Bourne Historical Society and the Bourne Town Archives for an evening of holiday cheer! Savor hot chowder, sweets, and punch while exploring the Blooming Together community art display, a celebration of shared creativity and festive spirit. At the close of the evening, the Bourne United Methodist Church Choir will lead us in traditional Christmas Carols!
Saturday, December 7th
10 AM to 2 PM Take a Holiday Stroll at the Museums at Aptucxet, 6 Aptucxet Road. Celebrate the season with a festive day of holiday cheer, history, and unique shopping. Explore the historic Gray Gables Train Station with a charming holiday display, discover vintage treasures at the “Windmill Vintage” shop inside the Joseph Jefferson Windmill and visit the Trading Post for a peek at Christmas Past. The Gift Shop will feature locally crafted goods and seasonal refreshments will be available along the way to keep you merry & bright.
10 AM to 2 PM The Beautiful Book Sale continues at the Jonathan Bourne Public Library. Get your Christmas shopping done early at the Beautiful Book Sale from 10 AM to 2 PM. Gently used books of gift-giving quality are offered for sale to benefit the Library.
Noon to 3 PM The Stories of Christmas at the Briggs McDermott House, 22 Sandwich Road. The Bourne Society for Historic Preservation welcomes you to explore the beautifully decorated rooms inside the Briggs-McDermott House based on classic Christmas stories. See Friday’s listing for details. The Aptucxet Garden Club will sell greens and wreaths arranged for the holidays from 10 AM – 12 PM.
1 PM to 3 PM Creating Gingerbread Houses at the Cataumet Schoolhouse. Children are invited to the historical Cataumet Schoolhouse at 1200 County Road in Cataumet on Saturday, December 7th from 1 PM to 3 PM to create their own gingerbread houses. Each child will have the opportunity to build and decorate a small house. We do ask that each child be accompanied by an adult. Sponsored by the Cataumet Schoolhouse Preservation Group (CSPG).

Annual Holiday Fair at the Pocasset Community Center at 314 Barlow’s Landing Road in Pocasset. Saturday November 30th, 8 AM to 2 PM. Gifts, jewelry, jams and relishes, plants, greens, wreaths, food, crafts, soaps, and more. Get ready for the holidays here! Giant Raffle Table benefits the Bourne Friends Food Pantry.
“The Gingerbread Man” Read Aloud & Activity at Briggs McDermott House, 22 Sandwich Road, on Saturday, December 14 at 1:00 PM. Bourne Society for Historic Preservation welcomes you to a read aloud of The Gingerbread Man story, followed by a craft and cookie decorating. Admission is free, but please RSVP by December 11th to lisagrobleski@gmail.com or call or text to 774-392-0116.
Winter Solstice Celebration at the Museums at Aptucxet, 6 Aptucxet Road. Saturday, December 21, 2024 from 4 PM – 7 PM. Dress warmly and join us around the fire as we roast and marshmallows, enjoy hot soups and sweets, and honor the ancient human tradition of celebrating the Winter Solstice. Our House of Hope and Regret will be on hand as we celebrate the end of the year by casting our regrets from the past year along with our hopes for the New Year into the fire.
